The Student Handbook
A Concordia handbook that actually respects Canada
This fall, the Concordia Student Union used student fees to publish a handbook that disparages Canada, questions the value of voting, and calls on students to mobilize for Palestinian prisoners — including some tied to terrorism. Last year's edition celebrated the Cuban Revolution and dropped Christmas from its calendar entirely. Even the National Post covered it.
Some students decided complaining quietly wasn't enough.
In partnership with Canadian Students for Free Speech, fourth-year Concordia students Anastasia and Drew designed and printed a patriotic alternative: a handbook that celebrates Canada, promotes freedom of expression, and honours influential Canadians.

It's striking.
The handbook is high quality. It's printed in colour.
It's designed to ensure students will use it. It's spiral bound just like the Student Union's official communist handbook.
And on September 23 and 24, we gave 120 of them to students at Concordia University and McGill University.

On September 23 and 24, National Campus Coordinator William Diaz and 10 students handed out 120 copies at Concordia and McGill, sparking real conversations about free expression and religious freedom on campus.
Over 40 students signed up on the spot to start free speech clubs at the two schools.
The campus response said a lot:
"One Concordia student told me how happy they were to see us there, because the left-leaning student union had never faced any real opposition until now. This was the first time students organized, with the support of an outside organization like Canadian Students for Free Speech, to fight back against their reign of terror on campus."

It was a success — but it came at a cost.
Each handbook costs about $15 to print. For the 120 copies distributed at Concordia and McGill, that's $1,800.
